Just read your post about your baby.  Being a having my degree in nursing and being a RN I had to post a comment.  I have not worked in many years since having my children (#6 is due in a couple of weeks), but I use my nursing knowledge to care for the precious children God has given me.  The peditricians I use are very much against using antibiotice unless they are sure it is bacterial, and I am right there with them because of  the over use and abuse of many docs with antibiotics.  One thing my peditrician told me was to always just use motrin (ibuprofen) for any fever over 102.  High fevers usually require something longer lasting and stronger than Tylenol.  I don't use Tylenol for anything but lower fevers or when they have a stomach bug.  With the 5 kids I have now there are 2 that run really high fevers like 103.5-105 with some viruses were the other 3 can have the same thing and their fever only be 101.5-103.  This could be Cara Grace however her reaction does worry me.  It is an old wives tale that fevers accompany teething per my peditrician.   The doctor that I really respect told me anything over 101 could not be teething.  Sorry to type so much.  I just get passionate about health care and little ones.  I believe so many doctors don't tell parents what they need and leave many parents confused.  Praying Cara Grace to fully recover and that no one else in your home get sick.  Blessings to you all.

@Blessingsofabigfamily -

Thank you for the information. I did use Motrin some (although I didn't mention that--didn't want to be TOO wordy haha). I had heard it was good to alternate the two so I tried that on the second day. I was surprised that it didn't seem to bring her fever down very much, so on the third day I went back to just Tylenol which lowered it much better and lasted a long time. Strange...

Maybe I talked about teething in a way that seemed like I was associating it with the fever, but I'm with you--I kinda roll my eyes inside when people talk about that. I don't believe that either. I do think it's possible for severe inflammation to cause a low grade fever, but I don't think it's as much as a tell-tale sign as people make it. What I was saying was that she is definitely teething now! And it just happened to really start the day after she had this fever. The past 3 days she has been most definitely teething something awful! She's doing better today, but last night was the worst! She finds relief in chewing on different things and teething tablets, but when she gets sleepy she has a hard time and really gets upset.

I still don't know what was causing the fever, but it hasn't returned since it broke that Sunday, praise God.

Again, thanks for your comments and prayers. Cara Grace is well, as is the rest of the family!

i just visited your new blog...miss you here at xanga, although I haven't been on much lately either... anyway, I just wanted to share with you that when my kids were just little(even starting when they were babies) they would get a high fever and would not eat or drink...it turned out to be a virus that causes blisters in the throat.....reason for not drinking (nursing) then 2 to 3 days later fever gone and they were fine... although it did always get passed around, so don't wory if the others get a fever...and I have always been taught a babies temp on tylenol is not unusual to go under 97.  Just wanted to share some of my experiences with my kids....  Titus 2:3

Hi there!  I pop in on your new blog and recipe blog occasionally.  Actually I was just trying to post a comment there...but I'm not set up right, so figured I'd try to catch you here.

So here's my comment on your chocolate cake recipe you posted:

We tried this for my son's 7th birthday.  It was great!  I had to substitute for the buttermilk with plain yogurt and it turned out fine.  I also baked it in round pans, and managed to get it out onto a cake plate.  I didn't pay close attention to your instructions about serving it from the pan, oops.  But we were making a "baseball" cake so I had to try...it worked okay, sank quite a bit in the middle!  Just right for making a cool whip baseball on top though.:)

I posted about it on Xanga just now, I don't know if you still read there.  I also linked to your site here.  I thought of Beverly as I made it and prayed for you.  Thank you for sharing her recipe.
